A magician is spurned by an opera singer, and takes a spectacular revenge by replacing the conductor and turning the hapless tenor into one thing after another.
@Gravidtron Yes, … @Gravidtron Yes, but with one slight difference. the opera singer is a victim and a protagonist( a good guy.) Guess who’s the antagonist? The magician. He got himself owned by that same opera singer this cartoon. Serves him right! LOL.
@9a3eedi The part … @9a3eedi The part where the guy throws the fruit on him was a ref to Carmen Miranda, a popular Brazilian singer. The Hawaiian number was incl’d prob b/c they were incl stuff that was recognizable to a 1952 audience. They used to show these things in movie theatres before the feature.
Dammit I wish I was … Dammit I wish I was a kid when these cartoons were around now people are too afraid to make decent cartoons, and NOW Cartoon Network is being a big dickhead and making live action bull shit.
Some of the gags I … Some of the gags I didn’t really get.
like the little kid gag “a baaaaasket a baaaasket I lost my yellow baaaaasket!”
and the HOO HAH HOO HAH gag
Compare this to ” … Compare this to “Long Haired Hare”. It’s amazing how two directors could take such a specific premise– prima donna opera singer gets deflated when a heckler dressed as a conductor ruins his performance of Largo Al Factotum– and make two cartoons that are completely different and yet both of the absolute highest caliber. Chuck and Tex were truly gods in these worlds they shared with us.
OMG I remember … OMG I remember watching this at 5 or 6 in the morning when my mom would drop me off at my grandma’s on the way to her job!!!! God I miss those days!!!!
You know, that reminds me of a black comic I once heard – he said something to the effect of – “I joke about racism, because racism IS a big joke! I mean, every man is my brother. Even the skinheads – sure, they’re confused Nazis with bad haircuts, but, hey!!” (I wish I could remember who it was, or the exact quote – it was funny as hell!!)
