Click (more info) for Lyrics.

I can almost see it
That dream I’m dreaming but
There’s a voice inside my head sayin,
You’ll never reach it,
Every step I’m taking,
Every move I make feels
Lost with no direction
My faith is shaking but I
Got to keep trying
Got to keep my head held high

There’s always going to be another mountain
I’m always going to want to make it move
Always going to be an uphill battle,
Sometimes you going to have to lose,
Ain’t about how fast I get there,
Ain’t about what?s waiting on the other side
It’s the climb

The struggles I’m facing,
The chances I’m taking
Sometimes they knock me down but
No I’m not breaking
I may not know it
But these are the moments that
I’m going to remember most yeah
Just got to keep going
And I,
I got to be strong
Just keep pushing on, cause

There’s always going to be another mountain
I’m always going to want to make it move
Always going to be an uphill battle,
Sometimes I’m going to have to lose,
Ain’t about how fast I get there,
Ain’t about what’s waiting on the other side
It’s the climb

There’s always going to be another mountain
I’m always going to want to make it move
Always going to be an uphill battle,
Sometimes you going to have to lose,
Ain’t about how fast I get there,
Ain’t about what’s waiting on the other side
It’s the climb

Keep on moving
Keep climbing
Keep the faith baby
It’s all about
It’s all about
The climb
Keep the faith
Keep your faith

How was music used during the Vietnam War?

Posted on June 24th, 2010 by admin

I’m doing a Senior Seminar paper on Vietnam and the music of time. My prof said I should focus on how the younger college age generation used the music to express themselves and just how they used the music in general. Anyone know any good books or sources for this?

You might consider using lyrics of the time as opposed to books and websites.

You can watch the ‘general’ cold war evolve into Vietnam in the lyrics by Dylan, Peter Paul and Mary, [some] Kingston trio, Dave Van Ronk and others of the cusp time when Vietnam was just tuning up. As the worm turned you see CW splitting as a direct result of the war, Folk fading to be replaced by predominantly anti-war lyrics, political lyrics, or ‘civil rights issue’ lyrics.

Merle Haggard, "Okie From Muskogee" and "You’re Walking on the Fighting Side of Me" emerged as a battle flag for the pro-Vietnam War factions, along with a song by an ex-Special Forces guy [name escapes me] "Silver Wings upon His Chest" about the Special Forces.

These songs were countered on the other side by "**shole From El Paso" by Kinky Friedman, "Your Flag Decal won’t Get You Into Heaven Anymore" by John Prine, songs by Steve Goodman, Kris Kristofferson, many others were openly anti-Vietnam War and made it into poplularity

The troops had their own obliquely anti-war preferences in music. We Gotta Get Out of this Place is an example. The song from the broadway musical hair, "Happy Birthday Abey Baby" became fairly popular and reflects the racial side of things. The haunting sound of "We Will All Go Down Together" by Billy Joel, sounds of helicopters in the background maybe covers the whole waterfront.

Jesse Winchester left to avoid the draft during the "Love it or Leave It" stage of things. Later he released a great album, "Learn to Love It" that’s worth a listen.

How do you learn music theory?

Posted on June 21st, 2010 by admin

What I am looking for is a textbook to learn music theory but doesn’t assume you don’t know how to read music. I can read music but just want more information about chord structures and more advanced items than learning how to read music. Any ideas of a good textbook?

Well it’s hard to say where you’re at from what you describe. You say you can read, but not how well. Therefore, let me suggest Practical Beginning Theory, by Bruce Benward. I use it to teach students myself. In fact, I’m so darn nice that I’m going to include the link to the book on Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/0697106357/ref=olp_tab_used/102-7434167-3360950?ie=UTF8&condition=used
The second one down is a very good copy ;)

What are some good music schools for music production and engineering?

Posted on June 18th, 2010 by admin

I have looked into it a little bit but I don’t know. Also what type of classes should I take while I am still in high school to get into a good music school? I already am going to take band, Jazz band, and music tech and theory and one other music class. I know how to play saxophone, some drums, and I am learning piano. If you can help please do thanks :)

Consider NYU, UCLA and the University of Southern California.

What is the best music theory book for preparing for the AP Music Theory Exam?

Posted on June 15th, 2010 by admin

Unfortunately, my school does not offer AP Music Theory. However, I will be taking the AP Music Theory Exam next year. Instead of being put in an AP class, my guidance counsilor is putting me in an independent study class where I will be studying on my own. I have a basic knowledge of music theory. I have looked for many places for a more advanced theory book and worksheet that I could check my work on. What book do you recommend I use for preparing for this exam?

The Advanced Placement Music Theory (or AP Music Theory) is a course and examination…

Some of the material covered in the course involves advanced sight reading, in-depth terminology, musical phrasing and composition, music history, chord structure and cadences, and other areas of music theory.

The exam itself is divided into two broad sections: Section I, the multiple-choice section, and Section II, the free-response section. In turn, each section is divided into parts.

These books may help

The AB guide to music theory by Eric Taylor Part 1 http://www.musicroom.com/se/ID_No/011274/details.html

or … The AB guide to music theory by Eric Taylor Part 2

http://www.abrsmpublishing.com/publications/1258

This is another good book for someone who has a basic knowledge… First Steps in Music Theory: Grades 1 to 5

All the best &
Peace!

What music would be good for 4-5year old kids to listen to while they are skating?

Posted on June 8th, 2010 by admin

I have been asked to make a CD for a skating party and I need good upbeat music that 4-5 year old kids could/will listen too. There are 3 boys and only 1 girls that are coming so the music has to be general, nothing too girl like, nothing to boy like.
Any suggestions? They have to be able to "dance" to the music and enjoy what they are listening too. I need about 4 songs more.

Have you ever considered those Kids Bop cd’s? My daughter used to love those. They update them all the time. I think you can purchase them from most retail stores. I hope this helps!
